The biggest hurdle in learning how to play acoustic guitar solos is making them sound melodic. The secret to making melodic solos is simple: play something you can sing, or sing something you can play. It is much more common to find electric guitar soloing lessons that it is to find acoustic lead lessons, but much of what the electric lessons focus on (with some big exceptions, like radical string bending and whammy bar techniques) can be applied when you learn to play acoustic guitar.

The first thing to do when learning, is to make sure you’re playing a guitar that’s suited to you. If you’ve already got an acoustic or hollow body guitar, there are things that can be done to it in order to make it more comfortable to play.
You can use lighter or heavier gauge strings, the nut at the top of the neck can be shaved down to lower the action and the truss rod can be adjust to bow the neck up or down to adjust the action and remove fretboard buzzes.
If you haven’t bought an acoustic guitar yet, there is a whole world of them out there ranging from a hundred dollars to several thousand dollars. The bottom line is to try a whole bunch of them and pick what feels best to you.
